Connor 2 Months Old - March 10, 2013

It blows my mind how fast time has flown by! Connor is growing and changing so much! I have heard to treasure this time I have with him while he is so tinybecause he would grow so fast, but I had no idea it would be this fast! I take pictures of him just about every day so that I won't miss any of the small changes. He is beginning to make eye contact with the camera so pictures are turning out so cute! Especially when he smiles!

The past few weeks have been kind of rough around here. We found out that Connor has silent reflux and a sensitivity to cows milk and/or lactose. Around 5-6 weeks old, he started getting really fussy to the point that we could not soothe him. He would cry a high pitched cry and arch his back continuously.  Then started going a day or 2 without having a bowel movement so his little tummy was always hurting. We tried gas drops which may have helped for that second but was not the cure. It was unbearable and so sad to see him in so much pain. I finally called the doctor and got him in the following the day to see if he had any recommendations. He pretty much told me that his situation was like a puzzle and we had to figure out what the cause was for all of his gas, constipation, and reflux. He instructed me to give him infant glycerin suppositories, prescribed him Zantac to take 3x a day, and changed him formula to a hypoallergenic formula Emfamil Nutragimen in case he was allergic to cows milk. He also instructed me to cut out all dairy from my diet in case he is allergic. The suppository worked instantly and it was amazing how happy he was after using the bathroom! He has not been constipated since we gave him the suppository 2 weeks ago. The Zantac seems to be working okay, but he is still fighting the reflux especially at night.  I am primarily breastfeeding but giving him 2 oz of Nutramigen formula after breastfeeding to make sure he is full. After all of this, he is feeling much better and now back to being a happy baby!! At his 6 week doctor appointment, he weighed 9 pounds 10 ounces! The doctor said he was right on target so that was good since he was not having any trouble gaining weight!

We had his 2 months check up and shots this week. He did really good! Only cried for a few minutes then gave him his paci and he was just fine. He did not run fever nor was fussy either. He weighted 11 pounds! And 22.5 inches long with head circumference of 16 inches! Such a big boy :)

At 2 Months, Connor is:
  • Sleeping 5-6 hours. Usually wakes up between 3-5 am.
  • Still sleeping in our room in the Rock and Play. Haven't discussed when we will put him in his crib yet. The Rock and Play seems to work really well with his reflux because it puts him at an incline.
  • Likes to be swaddled at night
  • Eating every 3 hours during the day. Nursing 30-45 min. Taking 2-4 ounces depending on if he nurses first or not.
  • Wearing 0-3 month clothes
  • Wearing size 1 diapers still
  • Eyes are still greyish-blue, but also have a greenish tint, too
  • Still likes his paci. Can usually get him to sleep with it as it soothes him.
  • Loves movement! Loves to be bounced and rocked the most.
  • Making all kinds of sounds - oohing and ahhing
  • Intentional smiles all the time! And laughing! So sweet!!
  • Making eye contact!
  • Tracking toys! And me! Loves following me around the room :)
  • Holding his head up so good for short periods of time
  • Tolerating tummy time for a few min at a time. Still not a big fan of it.

Connor 1 Month Old - Feb 10, 2013

Connor is growing, growing, and growing! And so much more aware of his surroundings! It is still so crazy to me that he has only been with us for a month because I cannot imagine my life without him. He has surely stolen both Brad and my heart! It's amazing to see how much he has changed over just 1 month.  From basically sleeping all day with the exception of eating in the first 2 weeks to now being awake for most of the day. He is constantly looking around, seeking out sounds, and cooing, oohing and ahhing. He has also taken a fascination with Nola. When Nola gets in his face, he just stares at him. It's so sweet to see Nola with him because he licks his hands, comes running when he cries, and definitely wants to play with him when Connor is kicking his legs up and down.

At 1 month old Connor is:

- Eating every 3 hours during the day. Trying so hard to do Baby Wise so that he will be sleeping during the night soon! (Hoping by end of month 2)
- He does not like naps! He wakes up around 7 am and will usually stay wake til after lunch on most days. As hard as I try to get him down for a nap, he refuses. (I think he must take after his daddy on this one!)
- Sleeping 3 to 4 hours at night except for the occasional gassy night. Usually gets in bed around 11 pm after his last feeding. Wakes up between 2-3 am then again between 5-7 am to eat.
- Sleeping in the Rock N Play in our room. However, on the mornings Brad has to get up and work, I try to sleep on the couch with the Rock N play beside me so Brad can get some sleep! It's just easier since I'm right there at the kitchen and can get up and move around without waking Brad.
- Pretty easy to get back down at night after feedings besides all of the grunting for the most part. This is another reason I sometimes sleep on the couch. He is so loud at night! :)
- Grunting, oohing, ahhing, and cooing. I love all of his little sounds.
-  Smiles really big when he is passing gas. They are so cute! No intentional smiles yet.
- Makes lots of funny faces and mouth movements when he sleeps.
- Nurses between 30 and 45 minutes at a time. Having to supplement formula at least once during the day and once at night due to my milk supply being low. He normally will eat 3 ounces, but will sometimes take close to 4 ounces when he is starving. I think I have a little pig on my hands!
- Still wearing newborn clothes and newborn diapers. Can wear some 0-3 months since he is so long, but they are very baggy on him!
- He seems to be gassy more and more often. Living off of gas drops and Colic Calm to ease his tummy aches.
- Loves staring at the ceiling fan and lights.
- Likes his bouncer seat and swing
- He loves movement. Bouncing, swinging, vibrating, rocking, etc.
- He loves car rides and riding in his stroller... puts him right to sleep!
- He loves music! We figured this out early on one night when he was so fussy and wouldn't calm down. We turned on Dave Matthews and he calmed down! So now every night he sleeps with Rockabye Baby Rendition of Dave Matthews! Love it :)
- Still has blue/grey eyes. They seem to be getting darker.
- Will usually take a paci at anytime, but especially when he is hungry.
- Loves relaxing in his bathtub. Especially when he has a tummy ache. It seems to calm him.
- He will tolerate tummy time for a few minutes and beginning to lift his head up and turn side to side. He is so strong!

Connor is 2 Weeks Old!

It has been a crazy 2 weeks around the Cornett household! Between breastfeeding for what feels like 24 hours a day, getting very little sporadic sleep, and changing a million diapers a day, I can honestly say that Connor has been life changing for both Brad and me. Although we are exhausted, we wouldn't change it for the world. Connor is amazing! He is so perfect in every way, even when he is crying at 3 am uncontrollably :)

We have seen Connor's pediatrician twice now. Once at 5 days old and today for his 2 week check up. At 5 days old, Connor had lost down to 6 pounds 14 ounces. At that point, he was not eating well primarily because I had very little milk. After pumping in between nursing and talking to friends and several lactation specialists, I finally began to produce a decent amount of milk. I still do not have just a lot, but am able to feed him regularly and pump still to try to begin my supply for when I return to work. The doctor suggested supplemented 1-3 ounces of formula at each feeding in the beginning, which I did for 2 days, but after my milk came in, I backed off to just giving him 2 ounces at night. Today at his 2 week check up, he was back up to his birth weight of 7 pounds 6 ounces! The pediatrician told me to continue feeding him as I was but to limit his feedings to 45 min since I sometimes would let him eat for an hour or even longer at times. The pediatrician was very pleased at his weight as well as with how strong our little man is. He instructed us to definitely not leave him alone on the couch or elevated surface because he can about turn himself over! Crazy at 2 weeks old can almost roll from back to side on his own.

This second week, we have noticed that Connor is so much more aware! He stays awake a little more throughout the day and when he does he is constantly looking around with his big dark blue eyes. He reacts really well to light and sound, too. He loves his hands. They are constantly moving, even when he is asleep. And boy does he make some funny faces when he is sleeping! My favorite is his little smile :)
We had Connor's newborn pictures taken at 11 days old by Suzanne Carey. She came to our house and stayed for 3 hours. She was so patient with him since he decided to be wide awake when she arrived. With the newborn sessions, it is best for him to be asleep so she can put him in various positions. But after taking our lifestyle pictures with him and nursing him, he finally passed out and was able to get a ton of pictures. I cannot wait to see them!

We have had lots of visitors over the past 2 weeks. Everyone has been so anxious to meet Connor! Our first night home, Leah and the girls came over. Rocki just loved Connor. The following weekend, Stacey, Cassandra, Jeff, and C.Jay came over on Saturday and on Sunday Laura, Trent, Meredith, and Chord came to visit. My mom stayed with us for 5 days after Connor was born. She was a huge help! My sister stayed through the weekend after he was born. And Brad's parents have been popping in and out pretty regularly bringing us dinner and helping out as we need them. Michael and Whitney have also visited pretty regularly. We brought Connor to visit his great grandma this week. She was overjoyed with our visit and thought he was the cutest little thing! Everyone thinks he is looking a little more like me than Brad at this point :) He definitely is handsome no matter who he looks like!
Our second weekend home with Connor (about 1 and half weeks old), we decided to go to our church Saturday night service. I was getting ready to get out of the house so we decided church would be the perfect place to go. Brad's parents (Nana D and Big Daddy) came over to babysit. They loved it! I think Connor slept the entire time we were gone, which was only about an hour and half. That's about as long as I could stand to be away from him :) We are so blessed to have this healthy baby boy in our life!
First night out :)
